FAQs

1. Can I print my own?

Absolutely! We would love to print your designs or designs you have found.

2. How much does it cost?

We charge a $2.00 setup fee for each piece printed plus 10 cents a gram. Shiny filament is 20 cents a gram. All printing must be prepaid, and an estimated time will be given at the time of payment. An average hand size piece will cost approximately $10 - $20 depending on infill and resolution settings.

3. Where do you find designs?

There are many websites and places to get designs. However, the most popular place to start is www.thingiverse.com. This will give you a good overview of the types of printable projects out there. You can also find other websites by doing a simple search. Not all designs uploaded are printable, so be sure you do your research and read all the information about the design you want to print.

4. Can I make my own design and print it?

YES! There are many programs out there to do 3D design. If you’re a beginner, you may want to use www.tinkercad.com. However, if you prefer to purchase a program or do more in depth artistic designs there are a vast array of programs to choose from. You are responsible for ensuring your design is printable as refunds will not be given for designs that don’t work due to design flaws.

5. How long does it take?

This is dependent upon many factors including infill, speed of extraction, and layer thickness. However, it usually takes about an hour per 10 grams.

6. Can I print in different colours?

Yes! We have many different filament colours to choose from. However, when printing, your entire design will be one colour when complete. You can paint your design with model paint or acrylic paint if you choose. (Costs may vary for specialty filament.)

7. How does it work?

There are many factors involved in the printing process. However, the basic concept is that the replicator heats up the filament (a plastic string) and pushes through the tip of the extruder in a tiny bead. The line is laid and the plastic dries immediately in place. The object is built up layer by layer until it is completed.

8. If I have a design, how do I get it to you?

If the file size is smaller, it can be attached in the 3D Print Request form above. If it is larger, you must drop off your design in person. Please bring it on a flash drive for ease. We will send you a confirmation and a quote of the price of your print, and will begin the print after you have confirmed the quote.

9. How will I know if the design is printable?

If you are creating your own design, we recommend taking a course or one of our one on one sessions to ensure you understand the printing and design process. If the design you found has been printed several times, there is a good chance that it is printable. Most designs will have notes. We will do our best to assist you with our own knowledge, but it is still your responsibility to be confident in the design you wish to print.

10. What kind of printer do you have?

We use the FlashForge Creator Pro. If you would like to learn more about the slicing software, you can download FlashPrint.
