Showcase Cinema

Join us at Rocky Cinemas on the second Wednesday of the month from September to April to watch some of the best independent films.

For the time being we are only holding one screening per film. Screening times may vary depending on Rocky Cinemas regular schedule (see below for more details). If attendance is strong we’ll resume the regular schedule with 5:00 & 7:00 PM screenings.

At this time the library isn't selling season passes. Individual tickets can be purchased from library staff at each film for $10.
If you previously purchased a Cults & Classics punch pass, you're welcome to apply any unused punches towards attending Showcase Cinema films.

Showcase Cinema is a member of Film Circuit, the Toronto International Film Festival's national film outreach programme, engaging domestic grassroots networks and strong community partnerships to bring the best of Canadian and world cinema to communities across the country.

We've screened Canadian films such as Brooklyn, Mean Dreams, The Steps, and Maudie. As well, Showcase Cinema has screened a diverse mix of engaging international films, including Moonlight, The Dressmaker, The Glass Castle, and Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool. Showcase Cinema provides film-goers an opportunity to see films that may not otherwise be available in Rocky Mountain House.

If you would like to help select the films we bring in for Showcase Cinema please e-mail armh@prl.ab.ca to request to be added to the selection list.

Film selection packages are distributed twice a year, (late Summer for the four September - December films, and again at the end of the year for the four January - April films). Community members can review the list of available films and cast their votes for which ones they would like to see.
