VDX (Interlibrary Loan Software)

Patrons may use TAL Online to request any item that is not owned by a library within Parkland, but is available from another Alberta library.

In VDX, staff can request items for patrons that are not held in Alberta libraries.

Watch any of the following videos to see a demonstration of a particular task in VDX. The pages in the VDX manual that correspond to each video are noted. Note: More videos will be posted soon!

VDX requests for eBooks and eAudiobooks

In general, eBooks and eAudiobooks are not available through interlibrary loan, due to licensing restrictions. Requests for these from PRL patrons will be "not supplied" and returned to their library's End of Rota queue. If a patron submits a request for an item that PRL has as an eBook or eAudiobook, VDX will flag it as "check manual." If there are no physical copies in PRL, you may wish to ask the patron if s/he wishes to download the eBook or eAudiobook. If the patron prefers to receive the item in a physical format, add a note to the "check manual" request that the item is not available in PRL and that the patron would like the physical book).

Interlibrary Loan Statistics for the Annual Report

VDX statistics for annual reports can be found by following the instructions in the VDX manual (section 11.2). Note that these numbers do not distinguish between in-province, out-of-province, OR out-of-country requests; the different types of requests are lumped together and not separated out. Note also that the VDX stats do not include any ILL requests you made or filled outside of VDX; you will need to add those in yourself.
