Standards & Legislation
Public libraries in Alberta are legislated by the Libraries Act and Regulation. Municipalities have the power to create or dissolve municipal library boards and municipal councils appoint five to ten board members. Once created, the Library Board is an independent body that has full powers of governance and fiscal responsibility for the public library.
For your convenience, Parkland has gathered here information and resources on:
- library standards and best practices,
- funding for public libraries,
- policy samples and templates,
