Standards and Best Practices for Public Libraries in Alberta - developed by Municipal Affairs, Public Library Services Branch and issued spring 2011. This document includes:
- Standards, which relate to bylaws, plan of service, policies, and financial reporting.
- Best practices, which relate to facilities, hours of opening, personnel, technology, resource-sharing, and collection management.
Public libraries housed in schools provides discussion points for libraries considering partnerships with school facilities.
Core Technology Competencies - developed by the Alberta Public Library Electronic Network Technology Training Committee.
- Technology core competencies are defined as a combination of skills, knowledge and behaviours related to library technology.

Best Practices for School Libraries
Alberta Education has established a School Library Services Initiative (SLSI) that focuses on reviewing K–12 school library services and support resources across the province. Follow the project at School Library Services Initiative (SLSI).
The School Library Information Portal has gathered guidelines, best practices, sample policies, and government position statements on school libraries from across the country.
