Reports & Statistics
Useful statistical data comes from different sources: from the integrated library system (through Horizon's Adhoc and WebReporter reports); from Public Library Services Branch, Municipal Affairs; from Statistics Canada's census data; from Alberta Community Profiles; from your own municipality and library; and even from regional library data.
Libraries are required to gather and report specific statistical data which is collated by Public Library Services Branch to create a province-wide picture of library services. Libraries also gather statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services and to report back to their community and municipal council. Statistics from PRL public libraries are available in the 2010 Annual Report.
The following pages are designed to help library staff and boards think about, gather, and use their statistical data as effectively as possible.
Collect & Use Statistics provides help in finding, gathering, and using statistical data.
Create your Annual Report provides help in gathering the specific data you need to complete the Public Library Survey and Annual Report of Public Libraries in Alberta due every February.
